Shaw Media Fearless Female Director Month: final week

The Shaw Media Fearless Female Director Month in the NSI Online Short Film Festival concludes this week with our two final films.

In the comedy Curse of the Jade Falcon (one of my personal favourites), directed by Tracy D. Smith (an NSI Features First grad), we’re treated to a cheeky reinvention of the opening scene of the classic film The Maltese Falcon. I forget how many times I’ve watched this short, I laugh out loud every time.

And by contrast in our second film, Evolucity, a girl is transported through time and witnesses the evolution of a city. This mixed-media animation is directed by the talented A. Megan Turnbull. You can read much more about Evolucity on Megan’s fab blog.

If you’re a female director with a short film, we want to see it.

We’re currently accepting film submissions for the NSI Online Short Film Festival until May 17, 2012, 4:30 p.m. If your film is accepted you stand a chance of winning up to $4,500. Woo hoo!

Don’t be sad that it’s the end of Shaw Media Fearless Female Director Month. Next week, in celebration of our other new film fest award, we kick off Bite Comedy Month with four weeks of some of our favourite comedy short films plucked from our festival archives.
