“The goal of Torturous was to parachute viewers into an intense, horrific scene and make them believe they are in for a grim tale … then add an absurd twist to jump over to an unexpected genre, all in just a few minutes.
The title Torturous reinforces this because, at first glance, it seems to be a standard name for a horror movie but once you’ve seen the film you see how it hints at how the villain feels about his vocation.
The film was created as part of the Atlantic Film Cooperative’s Film5 program. They helped with funding, equipment and post services. It was such a team effort from start-to-finish – every department brought great ideas and elevated the film to what you see now.
The film has gone on to screen at 50 festivals around the world and has received a dozen award nominations, exceeding all expectations. It’s been an incredible experience and reinforced my desire to tell stories through film.”
