NSI celebrates 100 New Voices grads

Last month NSI reached a special milestone.

When six students graduated from NSI New Voices at the end of July, it meant that 100 students have successfully completed the course since it started in 2005 with program creators Lisa Meeches and Melissa Kajpust. Ursula Lawson manages the course.

That’s 11 years of excellence in training young Aboriginal people aged 18-35 and introducing them to a variety of creative and challenging employment opportunities in the film and television industry.

Participants who have graduated from the NSI New Voices program have gone on to do great things. They’ve become respected filmmakers, musicians, journalists, writers, directors, producers, editors and playwrights. Their films have screened in festivals worldwide, they’ve started productions companies, they’ve made beautiful and successful feature films, they’ve made documentaries about personal and political subjects that matter to them and, above all, they’ve told their own stories.
