The Breadwinner wins at Europe’s Emile animation awards

The Breadwinner / Link to Emile Awards

The Breadwinner, an animated feature from Anthony Leo’s (NSI Totally Television) production company Aircraft Pictures, picked up four awards at the second annual Emile Awards, which recognizes excellence and diversity in the European animation sector.

Irish director Nora Twomey won for best direction in a feature film. The film also won best storyboard in a feature film, best character animation in a feature film, and best background and character design in a feature.

The film, a Canadian, Irish, and Luxembourg co-production, is adapted from the 2001 novel of the same name by antiwar activist Deborah Ellis and is based on her experiences visiting refugee camps in geopolitically volatile Afghanistan during the 1990s.
