Tricia Lee (NSI Diverse TV Director) has made the 2019 Bitch List with her script Spoken. The Bitch List is an annual listing of the most-liked Bechdel Test-passing scripts that have yet to be greenlit for production.

In Spoken an Asian-American college student, who has a tumultuous relationship with her overbearing mother, is informed by the dean of Harvard that she needs to be more well-rounded. She meets a spoken word artist and discovers an affinity for poetry. Along the way, she’s forced to confront family expectations and must dig deep into her own vulnerabilities and get past her Asian stoicism to discover who she really is, what she wants to do and how she will tell her family.

This year’s Bitch List has an emphasis on scripts by and about women of colour.
