Curious about exploring, testing and questioning the role of emerging technologies in film and television production?
The National Screen Institute, in partnership with New Media Manitoba, is hosting an online information session on October 26 at 7 p.m. CT to introduce NSI Next Level Production Lab – Manitoba Pilot – a new initiative coming soon.
Designed for experienced screen industry professionals living and working in Manitoba, this new advanced professional development lab emphasizes critical experimentation and explores how artificial intelligence (AI) can support professional practice, rather than replace it.
The session will cover the program, eligibility requirements, training structure and application process, with an opportunity for prospective applicants to ask questions.
Date: Monday, October 26, 2026
Time: 7 p.m. CT
Location: Online
The NSI Next Level Production Lab – Manitoba Pilot will bring together 18 participants, including screenwriters, producers, directors, directors of photography, assistant camera professionals and editors for hands-on training in virtual production, AI and emerging digital workflows at New Media Manitoba’s StudioLab xR facility in Winnipeg.
Participants will test the practical applications and limitations of emerging technologies and consider how they can be integrated into established production workflows while examining questions of creative authorship, consent and responsible use.
No previous experience with AI, Unreal Engine or virtual production is required.
Applications for the lab will open on October 26.
