Filmmaker’s statement
“This eight-month project was a labour of love, and it had to be because it was the first film I produced with a lot of hiccups and bumps along the way.
However, at the end of the day it was worth it. This film has helped changed the lives of Dwayne, William and Heather in ways I didn’t think possible.
It’s also helped change the perception of what being on welfare looks like in my hometown. Everyone has a story as to how they ended up in the position they’re in. If you take the time to listen and ask questions, the answers can be enlightening.
About Danielle Da Silva
Danielle is a recent graduate of the creative communications program at Red River College where she majored in journalism. She is completing her BA at the University of Winnipeg this summer.
She has been producing videos for just over a year and has completed two other short films in that time.
The 21-year-old is currently working and writing in Winnipeg and plans to continue using the documentary format to tell stories that matter to Canadians.
