Director’s statement

Alexander Carson says:

“Last Communication with Laura was shot over the course of two weekends in October, 2008, without a script, a crew, or any real ideas. We just started.

The voice-over and the music were written and recorded during the Christmas holidays without having looked at the footage.

For me, this film is defined by its caprice. It’s a sort of emotional memory film, without any regard for realism. And I love letter-writing. I guess I tried to capture that lyrical, literary feeling with cinema.”

About Alexander Carson

Alexander is a narrative artist from Ottawa, ON.

He studied film production at the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema at Concordia University in Montreal, where he wrote and directed his award-winning short film Built Like Light.

Alexander has since produced many films and videos as a founding partner of North Country Cinema corp, a director driven production company based in Calgary, AB.

His film Lucy James Part 1, a medium-length drama about marriage and friendship, was produced with the Canada Council for the Arts and has played to critical acclaim across North America.

Carson currently lives and works in Montreal, QC.
